Domestic and municipal wastewater treatment results in the production of sludge, which must be disposed of without harming the environment as a secondary pollutant. Since treatment sludge contains pollutants from the treated wastewater and treatment chemicals, its reuse and disposal are crucial to avoid potential environmental contamination.

Advancements in technology, sustainability, and source reduction of pollutants have led to many alternatives for managing sludge. Regulations issued by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization impose various restrictions to minimize environmental impacts.

Using soil as a receiving environment for treatment sludge can be a source of soil pollution. Therefore, to prevent soil contamination, identify, clean, and monitor polluted or potentially polluted sites, Turkey applies the “Regulation on Control of Soil Pollution and Point Source Pollution (TKKVNKKSYY).”

To assess the suitability of treatment sludge for controlled use in soil, analyses are conducted in accordance with the “Regulation on Use of Domestic and Municipal Treatment Sludge in Soil (EKAÇTKDY).”

When treatment sludge is sent to disposal sites, it falls under the scope of the “Waste Management Regulation” and is evaluated according to “Regulation on the Regular Disposal of Waste (ADDDY) Appendix-2.”

At TESTMER, we provide sampling, analysis, and reporting services for treatment sludge under ADDDY, TKKVNKSYY, and EKAÇTKDY regulations with our experienced team. We continue to be your partner in recovery and improvement efforts related to your treatment sludge.
